I like to find cool collage patterned paper of a nice cardstock weight to make this type of card. If it is double-sided to begin with, all the better. You'll be showing off both sides of the paper. If it isn't, no worries. You'll just cut a panel to glue onto the solid side showing in the middle panel. Let's begin!
For papers that are double-sided:
1. Cut your patterned paper to a 9" x 9" square.
2. Score at 3 inches and 6 inches. You now have two lines going down the length of one 9 inch side.
3. Fold and firmly crease along the score lines and then open the card back up.
4. Turn your square over so that the pattern you'd like to show the most on your card is facing down.
5. Next, cut a diagonal line from the top of the 3" crease line to the middle of the right edge (4-1/2" from top and bottom of edge.) Discard the triangle that you cut off.
6. Fold the paper on the score lines so that the front and back panels have the main pattern showing.
7. Glue down the front panel to the middle panel on just three sides so that a pocket forms. (It can be used for holding gift cards or book marks, etc.)
8. Card will fit in a legal sized envelope.
For one-sided papers:
1. Cut your patterned paper to a 9" x 9" square.
2. Score at 3 inches and 6 inches. You now have two lines going down the length of one 9 inch side.
3. Fold and make a nice creases along the score lines and then open the card back up.
4. Choose a nice complimentary pattern for the second panel and repeat steps 1 through 3.
5. Turn your main square over so that the pattern is facing down and place it on top of the second paper which is facing up.
6. Next, cut a diagonal line from the top of the 3" crease line to the middle of the right edge (4-1/2" from top and bottom of edge), cutting through both papers.
7. Trim away the right and left sections of the complimentary paper, saving just the middle 3 inch section.
8. Fold the main collage sheet on the score lines so that the front and back panels have the main pattern showing.
9. Trim 1/4 inch off the bottom of the complimentary paper's middle panel and adhere to the solid panel of your folded card, leaving a little solid showing at the top.
10. Glue down the front panel to the middle panel on just three sides so that a pocket forms. (It can be used for holding gift cards or book marks, etc.)
11. Card will fit in a legal sized envelope.
Added note: You can also make this card using a 12"x9" panel of paper. Simply score at the 4" marks instead. The card will still fit in a legal sized envelope.
I hope this is clear enough for you to try your hand at. (If not, let me know in the comment section.) It's a nice easy card to master. Good luck!
